This article reports of singular cases of DCS after breath-hold diving. But it also states that "Extension of the surface interval between the two breath-hold dives appears to prevent neurological symptoms", without going into detail. I read it as a confirmation that the AIDA surface interval rules (timex2; >30m depth/5; >60m one dive in 24h) might be there for a good reason.
Is there information, even anecdotal, where this might not be the case?
Input is very appreciated!
