The AIDA2 Open Water Freediver Course with Freedive Flow on Gili Air is a very rewarding experience for beginners. For those who are already confident in the open water, this course is a great starting point. The course builds a foundation of good technique, so that you can dive safely and buddy with other trained freedivers.
In this comprehensive beginner course you will be introduced to the most up to date techniques how to prepare yourself for freediving by consciously relaxing your body and your mind. Sets of stretching and breathing exercises will help you to gain a whole new experience of your body. We will also talk about how to choose your equipment and all the other factors you need to consider in order to have an enjoyable freediving session. You will learn how to assist a freediving buddy in trouble and thus become a reliable buddy.
AIDA2 Course Outline:
- 1 Introduction Session: Learn relaxation and breathing techniques
- 1st Pool Session: Learn how to extend your breath holds in a relaxed way and take care of a freedive buddy
- 2nd Pool Session: Practice horizontal underwater swimming to become an efficient diver, a reliable buddy and confident rescuer
- 3 Open Water Sessions: Apply what you learned to go a bit deeper, work on your duck dive to get underwater efficiently, buddy procedures and rescue techniques. Towards the end of the course you will be able to dive comfortably to 16-20m.
- Self Study: Develop your knowledge by reading the AIDA2 Manual in your own time. You get access to the manual the moment you confirm your course with us.
- 1 Written Exam: After a comprehensive knowledge review with your instructor, you can then check what you have learned by filling in the written exam and discussing it with your instructor.
As a certified AIDA2 Freediver you will be able to demonstrate the following standards:
- 2:00+ min static breath hold
- 40+ m diving horizontally with fins
- 16-20 m depth in the open water
To enrol in the AIDA Course, you must
- Be at least 18 old (16 years with parental or guardian’s consent
Be able to swim at least 200 m non-stop without fins and at least 300 m non-stop with mask, fins and snorkel
Course Information on Gili Air
In our base on Gili Air all activities take place locally – the pool, the beach and the open water are all within 1 min walking distance. Course introductions start at 2pm and finish before 5pm. The next morning we take you out to your first open water session, we meet at 8:15. Also on your second day, you will do your second pool session at 2pm. The last day comes then with the 3d open water session, plus the knowledge review and the exam in the afternoon.
