We certainly disagree on spreading false information, as in this phrase:
"As soon as you go unconscious, your body will attempt to take a breath and if you’re still under, you’re going to suck in a lung full of salt water."
Dr. Steven DeSantis (Advanced Trauma Life Support certified, trauma surgeon and surfer)
From blacked-out freedivers we know that as soon as you go unconscious under water, several mechanism will prevent water from entering your lungs: Lips seal, jaw muscles cramp, the epiglottis locks, etc. And there's more: You will have to *blow* on the face of a rescued unconscious non-breathing victim to dry the skin under his/her eyes – the skin in this area indicates to the unconscious body if there's air to breathe or not.
It is *not possible* for the unconscious body to inhale water.
If the unconscious person is not rescued within a very short time frame, the person will die, the muscles that protected the airways will slowly release and water enters the lungs. That's why every "drowning"-victim has water in its lungs. It's a consequence of death, not its reason.
